How to tell if your skin is oily
Ever wondered what kind of skin type you have? Let's take a look at the real signs of oily skin...
1. Your skin feels greasy
Does your skin feel slippery to the touch - particularly your forehead? This is due to over-production of sebum by the sebaceous glands, which causes the oily sensation and can often lead to irritation and discomfort.

2. Shiny T-Zone
Another classic sign that you have oily skin is a tell-tale shine on the forehead, nose and chin. To confirm your skin type, blot a clean tissue or blotting paper onto your forehead one hour after cleansing (no makeup). Oily skin will already show stains of sebum on the paper.
3. Enlarged pores
A build-up of excess sebum often gives the appearance of enlarged pores, particularly on or around the norse. Harsh exfoliation or heavy makeup will only worsen the problem and cause more oil production and/or blackheads.
4. Prone to breakouts and blemishes
Oily skin is the most likely to suffer from acne, regular spots and subsequent blemishes caused by picking or squeezing.
5. Your makeup won’t stay put
Does your foundation slide off? Eyeshadow ends up in the creases of your eyelid? Blush can be wiped off in one sweep? These are all signs that the oil is creating a barrier between the makeup and your skin, preventing a long-lasting finish.
Oily skin isn't just for teenagers! 41% of women over the age of 25 report having oily skin that’s prone to acne, with symptoms worsening during hormonal peaks such as periods, pregnancy or the menopause.
